What is the Tiny Forest Initiative?

The STIHL Tiny Forest Initiative creates new habitats, supports urban biodiversity, and brings more nature into densely built areas. Through the initiative, STIHL aims to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and contribute to greener, more livable communities for generations to come.

»As a family-owned company with deep roots in forestry, we have an enduring responsibility to protect natural habitats and preserve them for future generations.«

What is a Tiny Forest?

A Tiny Forest is a densely planted, multi-layered and fast-growing forest within an urban area, consisting primarily of native and site-appropriate tree and shrub species. In a very small area, a Tiny Forest offers food and shelter to insects, birds, and small animals, supporting a wide diversity of plant and animal life. And for people, it becomes a place of relaxation, learning, and slowing down.

3-5
seedlings per square meter
30-40
native species
3-5
years of active maintenance, depending on local conditions. After that, the forest is expected to become largely self-sustaining.

Community involvement

Opportunities for local people to take part in planting, learning and ongoing activities.

»The Tiny Forest initiative that my friends at STIHL have put together is a brilliant idea. It helps people in our urban areas and everywhere understand the many values forests give all of us. Clean air, clean water, natural beauty and a peaceful and relaxing place we can all enjoy. I am proud to be a part of these with my partners at STIHL.«
